The two airlines companies which are members of the Star Alliance, Air Canada and Spanair proclaimed that they will sign a code share agreement which will give both of them the opportunity to expand their network to new destinations. This code share agreement comes after Air Canada started its new flight between Toronto and Madrid on the 1st May 2009. However this was the only schedule proposed by Air Canada between Canada and Spain. Air Canada will fly as flight number and code AC flights operated by Spanair in Madrid, on the one hand, and Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Malaga, Alicante, Bilbao and Valencia, on the other hand due to this code share agreement. Spanair will market under flight number JK code on the non-stop flights of Air Canada between Madrid and Toronto with convenient connections to and from Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver
