The International Air Transport Association (IATA) based in Geneva announced its 2010 economic forecast for airlines. After having revised the outlook for the financial year 2010, IATA is forecasting a loss totaling 3.2 billion pound sterling for all airlines. Between 2000 and 2009, airlines in the United States recorded a loss of 30.3 billion pound sterling. This figure represents an average of 2.7 billion pound sterling per year. IATA said that airlines should reduce unit costs excluding fuel by 1.3% following its 2010 economic forecast. Airlines will remain firmly in the red in 2010 with 3.5 billion pound sterling in losses. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that if all regions except Africa will see an improvement in 2010 compared to 2009, performance will vary greatly as a result: the U.S. companies will reduce losses of 1.7 billion pound sterling in 2009 to 0.90 billion pound sterling in 2010, European companies will generate the biggest losses of all regions to 1.4 billion pound sterling, among others.
